I’ll start this off by saying that I love macro photography…of pretty much anything. I just find it fascinating and wish I had more time to do it.
A while back when I was barbecuing I noticed a stunned bee just climbing all around a plant. It’s usually pretty difficult to get as close to one as it was letting me, and since my chicken was going to take 40 minutes anyway, I thought I might as well keep myself busy and film it for a while. I ended up with about 5 minutes of raw footage (which you can watch here: A Bee On A Plant).
At the same time, I also needed to learn the basics of 3D layers in After Effects (for those that don’t know, After Effects is Adobe’s equivalent of Photoshop for video) for a project, so I thought what is a completely stupid way I can do that? Well, I came up with mimicking (poorly) the titles from the trailers of Inception. I picked and chose parts from each trailer and had to do lots of workarounds because I don’t know actually model anything in 3D. I could have done some toning and colour correction to make the footage fit with the theme of the titles, but I thought that was sort of like lipstick on a pig.
Anyways, it was a pretty fun exercise and not a bad way to learn the basics. Below, there’s some creepy photos I took at the same time too. For the techies, both the video and photos were taken on a D7000 with the 200mm f/4.
